Signal Boost
Does anyone out there live in Edinburgh? Or near it? Or in some other large city in Europe? [dreamwidth.org profile] marina is looking for crash space for a few days in late August. And I hear she brings snacks to share. (So if you're willing to host a multilingual fannish visitor for a few days, she will definitely be a TASTY multilingual fannish visitor.) If you're in the vicinity (...of Europe), please go read her post!

I do! Live in Edinburgh, that is. Sadly I'm also moving out in July. However! kathkin and gnimaerd are both Edinburgh-living fen, who will still have flats here, although Gni may be in London then. If it's more a case of 'must find crash space' than 'looking to hang with cool chicks', then I could also network among non-fen to try and find her somewhere.

I think it's more a case of looking to hang with cool fen? However, I will ask Marina to be sure! And, yay, thanks for the Edin - is it Edinburgers? - referral.

And I hope you enjoy living in (eventually) SF!

OMG thank you! I would rather stay with fen - that's sort of the fun of traveling via the internet, for me - so if there's any way you can hook me up with kathkin and/or gnimaerd I would be SUPER GRATEFUL. (I mean, I could PM them I guess but obviously I don't want to be like SOMEONE MENTIONED YOU LIVE IN EDIN, IS THAT TRUE? :D)

Er, thank you again!

Just got linked via Facebook - my flat is not particularly spacious, generally when people stay over they either share a bedroom (and I do everything I can to avoid sharing my room with close friends and family members, so, um) or time things so one of the bedrooms will be empty anyway. Kitchen floor has been used a few times but generally only for a couple of nights at a time. Am checking with my flatmates to see if either of them are planning to be away August 20th-25th. :)

Thank you! I would really appreciate it if you could check with your roommates :) And thank you so much for even considering hosting me!

It seems both of my flatmates are going to be here August 20-25th - I thought they probably would be as mid August would be a strange time for them to go away. Sorry! I hope you can find somewhere - I'd offer to ask around but macey_muse already offered and tbh we'd be asking mostly the same people.

Er, also, this is Marina (on Dreamwidth)! This is just my LJ username :)

I'm not in Auld Reekie, but digitalraven is; would relaying the signal be a worthwhile thing?

I know Marina would totally appreciate it! (Auld REEKIE? That's, um, given me an interesting mental image of Edinburgh.)

A search for the etymology of that nick turned up an article dating it to "days gone by when the smoke of countless coal fires curled into the winter air"; so it's obvs obsolete now.

Good news. Although, wow, being notable for being smelly took some WORK in those days. I am impressed with the grit and determination of Edinburgh residents of old!

Reek actually means "smoke" in Scots, as far as I'm aware. Not smelly, although the two are related.

Someday...someday I can make a post like that and get a signal boost like this. Someday...

Yes! TRAVEL IS FUN. (Uh, basically travel is fun for people who aren't me. But I hope you can do it, if you want to!)

OMG I literally just realized this post exists on LJ as well /o\ /o\ /o\

I can take it off LJ, if you want! I just automatically always crosspost.
Marinasabrina_il on July 8th, 2012 07:57 pm (UTC)
No no! I'm just used to crossposted posts from DW having a link back to LJ on DW, and I didn't see one on this post and so I assumed it didn't have an LJ crosspost.

And then at dinner with roga she was like "I saw someone offered to hook you up with people from Edin on TVF's post!" and I was like "O_O WHAT. WHERE?" and she was all "...on LJ?" and I was all "...THERE'S AN LJ VERSION?" Because I... I would have been stalking this space earlier had I known! :D

she will definitely be a TASTY multilingual fannish visitor.

That just sounds wrong. Are we supposed to eat our visitors? If so, I'm not visiting anyone ever again.

I figured that would be, you know, a negotiation between Marina and her hosts. PEOPLE GET UP TO WEIRD SHIT WHEN THEY TRAVEL.
Marinasabrina_il on July 9th, 2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
I can attest to getting up to weird shit when I travel! One time there was PIE. With FRESH CHERRIES. Boston will never be the same again.
